FastWork vs. SSAM
The SAP mobile work order app your team won't abandon.
Compare FastWork and SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM) on price, go-live speed, and what real users say.

How FastWork compares to SSAM.
SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM) is SAP’s mobile maintenance app for iOS, Android, and Windows. It connects to SAP ECC and S/4HANA through SAP BTP.
FastWork is Arkyn’s mobile work order app for SAP EAM, covering the same core workflow with a more efficient architecture, different pricing model, and unique features like 3D model capture and AI assistance.
Same SAP data, lower cost, a fraction of the effort.
What SSAM users say.
"It seems new versions are released without proper testing. You need to reset almost every day to make it work." – May 2024
"This app is a complete letdown. The UI is a nightmare, and the constant crashes make it more of a headache than a helpful tool." – November 2023
"Since the 2505 update the app is not working. Issues with part description not showing, weird error messages..." – July 2025
"Crashes every time I take photo or upload file. Completely unusable!" – July 2025
"Worst app ever. Nothing productive. Wastage of time. The app crashes very frequently. Sync time takes like eternity." – December 2023
"App always crash. Very sluggish and annoying app" – February 2025

$45 per technician, not $71.50.
SAP Service and Asset Manager costs $143* per Full Use Equivalent (FUE) per month.
One FUE covers two standard maintenance technicians, making the effective price $71.50/user. Basic users (10 per FUE) only get Dynamic Forms access.
They do not get the full mobile app. FastWork starts at approximately $45 per user per month and volume pricing is available.
*SAP pricing, March 2026. Typically negotiated per deal.
Live in weeks, not months.
Implementing SAP Service and Asset Manager will take you months to years, if you ever get it fully implemented at all.
The best case scenario for SSAM is four months from business case to go-live, for a single plant, with intense after-launch care required. You can read more about Deloitte's SSAM implementation for a mining equipment manufacturer here: SSAM case study.
FastWork goes live in weeks with technicians and operators able to turn on the app and start working.

Avoid massive upgrade projects and consulting bills.
SSAM is sold as a subscription, but the real cost is the consulting manpower needed to get it up and running. Setup, customization, and every upgrade require SAP consultants to configure, rebuild, and test your deployment.
SAP's own Upgrade Guide confirms that updating SSAM is not as simple as installing a new version. Your configuration has to be rebuilt to work with each new release. Skip that step and the app breaks.
FastWork is SaaS with no consulting partners required.

85% adoption. Not shelf-ware.
FastWork averages 85% adoption across deployments. Built for technicians and operators on the ground, not IT teams. Consumer-grade usability means you can open the app, see your work orders, and report your work with minimal training.
Stays fast at scale.
"If we restrict to 30,000 equipments, we improve the sync times, but have losses when trying to find equipment outside that range." SAP Community
"Sync times are really long, it takes about 2-4 mins even in case of little to no changes." SAP Community
"Even without having any multimedia like pics or PDF attachments this app is taking more than 15 min to sync." Google Play
How the apps sync.
With FastWork.
SAP itself describes this approach as "much faster than the traditional request/response model."
With SSAM.
SAP's own documentation warns that this sync method can cause pages to take a long time to load: "This distribution model can download many operations in SAP Service and Asset Manager."

Frequently asked questions.
SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM) is SAP’s mobile app for maintenance technicians, field service workers, inventory clerks, and safety technicians. It runs on iOS, Android, and Windows, connects to SAP ECC and S/4HANA through SAP BTP, and works offline. SSAM replaced the older SAP Work Manager and SAP Inventory Manager apps.
SSAM stands for SAP Service and Asset Manager. You may also see it referred to as SAP Asset Manager or SAM. It is the successor to SAP Work Manager.
As of April 2026, SAP lists SSAM at $143 per Full Use Equivalent (FUE) per month. One FUE covers two standard maintenance technicians, making the effective price approximately $71.50 per user. SSAM also requires a SAP BTP subscription, which is priced separately. Volume discounts are typically negotiated per deal.
SSAM requires SAP consultants or certified partners for initial setup, for any modifications after go-live, and for every version upgrade. SAP professional services typically bill $175 to $285 per hour for PM-related work. These costs are separate from the $143/FUE/month license and the required SAP BTP subscription. FastWork charges a one-time setup fee, and updates ship automatically with no consulting required.
Yes. SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) is the plant maintenance module built into SAP S/4HANA (and its predecessor SAP ECC). SSAM is a separate mobile app that connects to SAP EAM to give technicians field access to work orders, notifications, and asset data. FastWork also connects directly to SAP EAM on both ECC and S/4HANA.
SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) is the original module name used in SAP ECC. SAP EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) is the broader term SAP uses in S/4HANA to describe the same core functionality, plus newer capabilities like asset performance management. In practice, most maintenance teams use PM and EAM interchangeably.
SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM) is SAP’s official replacement for SAP Work Manager. SSAM runs on SAP BTP with a newer architecture based on the Mobile Development Kit (MDK). Organizations still on Work Manager will need to migrate, as SAP has ended active development on the older app.
Authentication flows through SAP Cloud Identity Services and your corporate identity provider. Principal Propagation ensures your existing SAP authorization model stays in control. Communication between SAP BTP and your on-premise systems runs exclusively through the SAP Cloud Connector. All data in transit is encrypted.
No. Despite the separate sounding name, FastCloud runs natively on SAP Business Technology Platform. It is deployed and managed within SAP BTP, using the same infrastructure your enterprise already governs and secures.
FastCloud uses a transient cache layer as a high-performance synchronization buffer between SAP and mobile devices. It is not a secondary data store. Business data flows through it to reach technicians in the field and returns to SAP. No business data is persisted outside SAP longer than operationally necessary.
Yes. FastCloud can expose SAP events to third-party applications like Microsoft Teams, ServiceNow, and Salesforce.
